Anyone who is committed to losing weight and getting into shape in the long term will certainly encounter a few obstacles on the way to achieving this. One of the best – albeit predictable – steps is to find a fitness expert, like someone in the shape of Shaun T.
The fitness enthusiast sees what he does not just as another career step, but as his entire existence. Shaun T. is one of the best in the industry and has the body to prove it. Over the years, he has developed family-oriented fitness programs like Hip-Hop Abs, Insanity, and T25. Shaun T is also a motivational speaker, choreographer and businessman.
Biography: Who is Shaun T?
Fitness trainer Shaun Thompson was born on May 2, 1978, in Deptford, New Jersey.
Thompson’s love for everything to do with fitness was evident long before he began his career in the industry. As an adolescent, he regularly played baseball, soccer, and athletic events. While studying at Rowan University, Shaun T was an athletics star. He originally joined the institution with a different course but gained more than 50 pounds in his first year of study. This was the final nail in his decision to make fitness a lifelong goal. Shaun T switched majors and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports science and a minor in theatre and dance.
After Bowan, Shaun T moved to Los Angeles to work as a choreographer and dance trainer. His talent brought him a huge client for his first professional work – Mariah Carey.
Subsequently, Shaun started his career and positioned himself as a health and fitness specialist. He took a job as a health program manager and health trainer for several fitness chains including Wyeth and Equinox Fitness.
Shaun T’s first video training program Hip-Hop Abs was created for Beachbody in 2003. Representatives from the company approached him during his time at Equinox Fitness and asked him to submit a demo workout video. In 2007, Hip-Hop Abs became the best-selling workout program in the country.
He followed up in 2009 with another outstanding program, Rockin’ Body. In 2009, Shaun T again worked with Beachbody to develop Insanity, a 60-day intensive total body workout program. Due to the immense popularity of the program, the fitness enthusiast received invitations to high-profile lectures and health shows such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, Doctors, The Tyra Banks Show, and Dr. Oz Show.
Thompson followed up with two sequels to the successful program: Madness: The Asylum, and Madness: The Asylum Vol.2, both of which were based on exercises used by professional athletes.
Since then, Shaun has developed several other fitness programs including Focus T25, Insanity Max 30, and Cize. The latter reflects his love of dance and is the most entertaining workout Shaun has released, according to users of the video series.
Over the years, Shaun T has also appeared on CNN, The Late Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Good Morning America. He has also worked with Radio Shack, LA Lakers, Nike, Boost Athletic Shoes, etc.
Shaun conducted a small experiment in late 2017 to find out exactly how much alcohol consumption was affecting his training routine. After a particularly bad hangover, Shaun, who had never really drunk much, decided to stop drinking in January 2018 until his 40th birthday in May. A few months later, he dropped some hints that suggested he was thinking about quitting drinking for good.
Shawn T’s marital status: Is he gay and who is his husband?
While many of his fans and followers over the years suspected that the fitness guru was gay, the best evidence they had was clued from his training videos. However, Shaun finally came out in October 2012 and introduced his partner to the world.
Not long after the revelation, he married his longtime friend, Scott Blokker. Blokker, like Shaun, has a background in athletics: he played professional football for six years before quitting to join his parents’ company.
Scott Blokker revealed on Shaun T’s blog in June 2013 how he had struggled with his sexual orientation for many years and how he hated himself for being gay. He then went on to mention that his training partner was his saving grace and had played a big role in helping him accept himself.
What is Shaun T’s net worth?
From the beginning of his career until 2015, Sean has published 10 training video series, including one in 2008, aimed at children aged 7 and up.
The immense success of these programs, especially his collaboration with Beachbody, has earned him a massive and well-deserved net worth of $10 million.
