Among his peers, he is best known as Fat Rob, but American football fans will agree that the running back Robert Kelley, who runs with the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL), is the real thing. Although he was not in the 2016 draft, the talented running back has fought his way into the NFL. After the 2016 draft, he signed with the Washington Redskins as a free player without a draft. Kelley has been in the Redskins’ service for two seasons. He ended his college career with the Green Wave football team at Tulane University. Read on as we take a quick look at his biography, NFL career, height, weight, and other interesting facts below.
Robert Kelley’s Bio (Age)
Robert Kelley was born on October 3, 1992, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to African-American parents, Darriel Kelley and her husband Robert Thompson. He grew up in New Orleans’ 9th Ward District, and in 2005 his family lost their home in New Orleans due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina. Kelley is an American citizen of African-American ethnic origin.
Kelley attended New Orleans Walker High School in the West Bank of Algiers, New Orleans, and completed his high school education there. While there, his love of football led him to join the school team. He played the position of running back for the team. Besides soccer, he also participated in athletic events.
After graduating, he enrolled at Tulane University where he played college soccer from 2011 to 2015. He played for Tulane alongside Orleans Darkwa in the backfield; in his freshman year, Kelley scored 16 receptions with 178 receptions and two touchdowns with 332 rushing yards. In his sophomore year, he improved his Green Wave play and set a record of 46 receptions, four touchdowns, 286 yards, and 340 lobbies, which was his team-high this season. As a junior, he scored three touchdowns, 18 receptions, 420 rushing yards, and 176 receiving courts in 2013.
Kelley missed the 2014 season because he was arrested for assaulting his fellow student. The student also claimed that Robert rode away on his bike. The case resulted in Robert missing the entire 2014 season. After the charges were dropped, he returned to the team for the 2015 season. By the end of his career in 2015, Kelley was in action in 12 games, with 232 rushing yards, six receptions, one touchdown, and 33 receiving yards.
NFL Career and Stats
During the 2016 NFL draft, Robert Kelley was not shortlisted, and after the draft, he signed on as an undeveloped free agent with the NFL’s Washington Redskins. When he joined the Redskins, Kelley scored his first touchdown in his career against Kirk, cousin of the Detroit Lions. He made his first career start after the absence of Matt Jones. When he played the Cincinnati Bengals on October 30, 2016, Robert had 21 Carries with 87 rushing yards. His rookie season ended with 12 receptions, six touchdowns, 82 receiver yards, and 704 rush yards.
In the 2017 season, he received less playing time because he was placed behind Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine. Two touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks in their 9th-week win earned Robert an injury that put him on the injured reserve for the rest of the season. He ended the season with three touchdowns and 194 stormy yards.
While the 2018 season preliminaries are still underway, the Redskins’ rush line was not as efficient after the absence of Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine, who are still recovering from their injuries. This means a big responsibility for the Washington bum Kelley. He will not only get more playing time but also the chance to prove himself as a bell ringer for his team. Hopefully, he will then receive a permanent starting jersey for the Redskins.
