The American football running back, Chris Thompson, was a versatile player for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL). Thompson has distinguished himself not only as a running back but also as a wonderful pass catcher, blocker, kick-returner, and tempo changer.

He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft. Chris played college football at the Florida State University Seminoles. While there, he led the Seminoles to win the 2012 ACC Championship. Read more about him below.

Chris Thompson Bio

Chris Thompson was born in Greenville, Florida, on October 20, 1990. He was raised with his other siblings by their parents Cynthia and Maurice James. As he grew up, Thompson became interested in soccer, which led him to join his high school team. He attended Madison High School in Florida. During his time there, Thompon played several positions both as a running back and return specialist. He led Madison High to the state title after running over 2,300 yards and 33 touchdowns.

After completing his high school career, Chris Thompson enrolled at Florida State University where he played college football. While playing for the Seminoles, Thompson finished his freshman year with 13 games, scoring 2 touchdowns, 23 carries, and 120 rushing yards. In his sophomore year, he led the team to victory over South Carolina in the Chick-fil-A-Bowl, becoming the MVP of the Chick-fil-A-Bowl in 2010. He finished the season at the top of his team with six touchdowns, 134 Carries, and 845 Rush Yards.

After playing five games for the Seminoles, Thompson broke two vertebrae in his back in 2011, shutting him out for the rest of the season. He responded more quickly to rehab, however, and after a few months, he returned to the field in early 2012. During the 2012 season, Chris Thompson led the team to the Atlantic Coast Conference, where they emerged victoriously.

His season was interrupted when he suffered a tear in the left knee of the ACL during the game against Miami in October 2012. This year he had a total of five touchdowns, 91 carries, and 687 rushing yards in eight events.

NFL Career and Stats

After an impressive college career, Thompson was one of the prospects for the 2013 draft along with teammate Xavier Rhodes, and during the 2013 draft, he was selected in the fifth round of the draft by the Washington Redskins. He was the 154th overall candidate to be selected in the draft. Thompson signed a four-year contract with the Redskins and became the recovery specialist for the team that replaced the injured Richard Crawford.

And after struggling in the first four games of the 2013 season, Thompson was later replaced by Josh Morgan, who won the starting jersey. He suffered an injury to his left labia, which prevented him from playing most of his rookie season. He ended the season with a record of seven-point returns for 36 net yards and eight kick returns for 160 yards.

The following season, Thompson didn’t have much time left for the Redskins. He fought for the third running back position but lost it to Silas Redd. Later he played two games, from which he scored his first touchdown in his career and three receptions. Thompson improved significantly in the 2015 season with a total of two touchdowns, 35 receptions, 216 rushing yards, and 240 receiving yards.

In the 2016 season, Chris Thompson played 16 games for the Redskins and finished the season with a total of two touchdowns, 49 receptions, 356 rushing yards, and 349 receiving yards. In 2017 he signed a two-year contract extension with the Redskins and played 10 games of the season. He had four touchdowns, 39 receptions, and a career-high of 510 receiving yards and 294 career yards.

If you have seen Thompson’s highlights, you will agree that he is such a smart runner and receiver when it comes to changing the game. He is able to use fast moves to miss a tackler in the room and he is a very decisive runner. Although he is not that tall, he still makes a big impression on the court with a height of 5 feet 7 inches.

He also has a bodyweight of 192 pounds. Thompson has a hand size of 9¼ inches and an arm’s length of 30¼ inches. His hair is black, while his eyes are colored brown.
