Amelia Fiona Driver is a British-American actress and singer-songwriter popularly known as Minnie Driver. She is best known for her roles in Speechless and Good Will Hunting. Her name – Minnie – was given to her by her little sister, who could hardly pronounce her name Amelia properly when they were younger. Since then she has accepted the name with goodwill and is now known worldwide as Minnie Driver.

She was born Amelia Fiona Driver on January 31, 1970, in Marylebone, City of Westminster, England, the daughter of a successful businessman (father) and a fabric designer (mother). Her father, Charles Ronald Driver, and her mother, Gaynor Churchward, were never married. The two had an affair when Minnie was born, Charles was legally married, while Gaynor was never married at all. Her parents ended the affair when Minnie was 6 years old and she lived with her mother and her siblings Charlie Driver, Edward Churchward, and Kate Driver. Her brother Charlie has the same father but different mothers with her, while her other brother Edward has the same mother but a different father with her. Her sister Kate Driver is a film director, and both have the same parents.
Driver attended Bedales boarding school in Hampshire, England. Later she attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated from art school and decided to concentrate fully on her acting career.
The driver started her acting career in 1990 when she appeared as Lydia on the TV show God on the Rock. The following year she was cast in two television shows, The House Of Elliott and Casual as Mary and Zena Mitchell.
In the following years, she continued to take on roles in several television shows, but it wasn’t until she played the role of Benny in Circle of Friends in 1995 that her talent began to be fully recognized. Between 2003 and 2004 Minnie starred as Lorraine Finster in the television series Will and Grace. After that, she did not appear in any television series until 2007.
She returned to the television series when she was cast in The Riches as Dahlia Malloy. Between 2007 and 2008, she remained on the series until her child was born, and then she took another two-year break from television shows.
Minnie Driver reappeared on the big screen in 2009 when she appeared in the movie Motherhood as Sheila. A year later she was convicted as Abra and cast as Ms. P in Barney’s version. In the same year, she reappeared on television shows and was cast as Valerie in Modern Family.
