Famous MLB player Alex Rodriguez had the privilege of romantically fusing with some of Hollywood’s most beautiful women. However, although he has always had a penchant for beauty, famous women have not always been his benchmark, which is a typical example: Cynthia Scurtis, his first wife and the mother of his children.

It’s been more than a decade since their marriage ended in a not exactly friendly way, and while Alex, aka A-Rod, seems to be coping quite well with his recent A-Star relationship with Jennifer Lopez, many people are eager to know where Cynthia is now. Read more about this and the details of the couple’s divorce.

Cynthia Scurtis And Alex Rodriguez Love Story

Her love story, like many others, seemed almost fateful. Cynthia was born in Miami, Florida, more precisely in Coconut Grove, where she lived until she moved to Ohio to study psychology at the state university. After graduating, she returned to Florida to study for a master’s degree at Nova Southern University. She then returned to her hometown to settle and work, and it was here that she met her future ex-husband Alex.

Cynthia, a fitness enthusiast, loved to work out in the Body and Soul Gym, and Alex, who was the Seattle Mariners Allstar Shortstop at the time, happened to go there as well. He asked her out, and after a series of no votes, she finally said yes, and in 1996 they started dating. Six years later, on her 30th birthday in 2002, Alex asked the big question and she said yes. They got married that same year.

In the meantime, her proposed union caused controversy within Cynthia’s family only because Alex is not Greek; an aspect that was particularly important for her grandfather who is a Greek Orthodox priest. This was obviously resolved because it was Cynthia’s grandfather who married the couple.

Why The Union Failed And How Was It Settled?

The couple’s first child, Natasha Alexander, was born on November 18, 2004, two years after their marriage, and then the family moved to New York because of A-Rod’s career. Everything seemed to be on track until 2007 when fraudulent rumors about Alex spread, which led to Scurtis moving out of her house temporarily in May. The couple settled down and the result was their second child, Ella Alexander, born on April 21, 2008.

Unfortunately, their problems did not get any better, and a rumor mill between Madonna and A-Rod eventually led to Cynthia filing for divorce on July 7, 2008, when Ella was barely 10 weeks old, citing marital misconduct – especially extramarital affairs – and emotional abandonment in the petition.

Although Cynthia had her list of claims for divorce, which included traditional child support and alimony, full custody of her two children, life and health insurance, fair distribution of assets, and her $12 million Coral Gables house, she withheld the name(s) of the people her husband allegedly cheated on her with.

With a prenuptial agreement and the best interests of her children as her highest priority, the divorce was not unnecessarily prolonged, and in September 2008, after a private hearing, everything was settled quietly.

How Has The Couple Fared After Their Divorce

After their paths had separated, Alex Rodriguez didn’t take long to get back outside. As if the rumor of his alleged affair with Madonna opened his eyes to the stars, he began dating famous women, starting with Bethenny Frankel of The Real Housewives of New York fame. Then he moved on to Kate Hudson, and they dated for about seven months. He dated Cameron Diaz for a year and Torrie Wilson for almost four years before moving on to Anne Wojcicki, CEO of Silicone Valley, and then Jennifer Lopez in 2017. He finally became engaged to Jennifer Lopez in March 2019.

Cynthia Scurtis, on the other hand, tried to make another date with real estate investor Laszlo Fazekas in 2009, but it didn’t last long. Nevertheless, the mother of two also found love in Angel Nicolas, a former professional baseball player who became a real estate agent, and they have a girl together, Camilla, born in 2016. Although they have not announced a formal wedding, their social media posts usually point to a secret marriage. All in all, both Alex Rodriguez and Cynthia Scurtis seem to be doing well on their own, and they also seem to integrate as well as possible.

In 2018 Cynthia and Alex returned to court for another marriage and alimony dispute. This happened after Rodriguez, who had paid about $155,000 in alimony and child support since their divorce in 2008, explained that the amount he paid for alimony should have been reduced when he retired in 2016, as his income had fallen by 90%, from an annual income of $30 million when he was with the New York Yankees to about $3 million.

According to sources who spoke to TMZ in a report released in October 2018, the retired baseball player was angry at how Cynthia was enriching herself out of his pocket by allegedly acquiring millions of dollars in money that was held in her bank account, three houses, and many cars. He also complained that she didn’t want to work despite an MA in psychology and added that he felt financially responsible for Cynthia’s fiancé.

According to the source, A-Rod believes that no more than $7,000 to $12,000 per month is spent on his daughters, but that he doesn’t mind paying $20,000 per month. Cynthia for her part, the report says, wanted almost $50,000 a month, and as a result, the ex-couple stopped at that time.

More than a year has passed since then, and we believe that the couple must have reached an agreement on this issue.
