Anthony Dwane Mackie was born in New Orleans on 23 September 1978. He was raised with his two brothers by their parents, Willie Mackie Sr. and Martha Gordon. His father was an entrepreneur who owned his own lumber company.
Instead of following their father’s path, each of the three brothers decided to go their own way, with Calvin Mackie becoming a famous motivational speaker, Willie Mackie Jr. being an engineer, and Anthony Mackie being left behind as an actor.
For his education, he attended Warren Easton Sr. High School before moving to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA).
