The childhood struggles of Christopher Titus

Christopher Todd Titus was born in Newark, California on October 1, 1964. He comes from a family of five, consisting of his father Kenneth Williams Titus, his mother Juanita Clarice Holmes, and two siblings named Shannon and Dave.

Titus grew up in Newark and had a not exactly ideal childhood. His father was a misogynistic and abusive alcoholic who went through several divorces. His mother, for her part, was a drug-addicted schizophrenic. His parents’ marriage was expected to end in divorce.

Titus spent the formative years surrounding his mother, father, and grandparents; soon he tried alcohol and drugs. The little boy persisted in these two vices until the fateful day when he got drunk and fell into a bonfire at a beach party. Luckily, some friends came to his rescue and after the hospital stay, he swore to change his life. Titus cleaned up afterward and started stand-up comedy at the age of 19.

Breakthrough and other career attempts

Titus’s material consisted mainly of jokes about his tragic childhood, and in this way, he gained a decent following. He later became a national sensation after he premiered his first comedy special Norman Rockwell is Bleeding at the Hudson Theatre, L.A., in the late 1990s.

The show, which unswervingly explored his childhood full of marital violence, mental illness, and alcoholism, was well received by the fans. It also spawned a very successful Fox sitcom of the same name, which ran from 2000 to 2002 and kept him firmly in the spotlight.

Since his breakthrough in the early 2000s, Christopher Titus has remained relevant to the comic industry. He has released at least eight comedy specials/albums, including The Fifth Annual End of the World Tour (2007), Love is Evol (2009), Neverlution (2010), Voice in My Head (2013), Angry Pursuit of Happiness (2015), Born with a Defect (2017), Armageddon (2018) and Stories I Shoulduldn’t Tell (2019). The latter reports on the most outrageous parts of his family background, including the fact that his sister (Lisa) and his mother both committed suicide.

His career as an actor

Besides his comedy shows/specials, Christopher Titus is also a budding actor. Born in California, he has starred in several movies and TV series over the years, including Bad Parents, Remarkable Power, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Scar, Big Shots, CSI: Miami, The Exes, 21 Jump Street, Special Unit, Finding Carter and The Twilight Zone, etc.

Meanwhile, Titus has revealed that he uses his family background as a material because it is therapeutic and helps him deal with his demons. The comic also revealed that he inspires other people when they realize that their own families are not nearly as screwed up as his.
