Vincent Kompany is possibly the only professional footballer in the world to have earned an MBA while still playing at the highest level.
The Belgian national team captain, who is also the captain of his club team Manchester City, has been described as erudite and eloquent, unlike his football colleagues. So it is no surprise that in his first year as captain of his club, Manchester City was crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 44 years.
Vincent Kompany Biography
Vincent Kompany was born on 10 April 1986 in Uccle, Brussels, Belgium, the son of Pierre and Jocelyne Fraselle Kompany as Vincent Jean Mpoy Kompany. His father Pierre is a Congolese immigrant to Belgium who is currently working as his son’s agent, while his mother Jocelyne worked as an employment agent before her death.
Kompany and his siblings, the older sister Christel and the younger brother Francois, all grew up in Brussels. As Kompany’s father came from a low-income family, he was careful to invest in his child’s football skills so that he could lead a better life as an adult.
Even as a schoolboy, Kompany attracted the attention of the major Belgian clubs, who wanted to use him in their youth. However, he suffered a lot of racist abuse because he was the child of an immigrant. The abuse, in turn, led him to acquire the reputation of being violent, as he fought and beat up every other child who racially abused him. One of these outbursts led to him losing his place in the Belgian youth team.
