He is best known as the host of several food shows such as Food 911 and Tyler’s Ultimate, which were broadcast on the Food Network. Tyler Florence was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on March 3, 1971. As a teenager, Tyler worked at a restaurant in his hometown, doing the dishes and worshipping the restaurant’s chef like a god. He liked the flashy chef’s lifestyle and the people he dealt with. These things made Tyler imagine his life as a chef. When he was 19 years old, he took a trip to Paris, his adventure in the fashion capital only helped fuel the fire for his burning ambition to become a professional chef.

To achieve his goal of becoming a chef, Tyler then attended the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson and Wales University in Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated from the university in 1991 and was later awarded an honorary doctorate from the college for his achievements in the culinary arts.

After graduating from university, Tyler left South Carolina and moved to New York to pursue his dream of becoming a renowned chef. While in New York, he worked with some of the city’s best chefs, Charlie Palmer, Rick Laaksonen, and Marta Pulini.

Florence opened his first restaurant in New York in 1998 when he was 27 years old. Although he initially expected only one restaurant, he opened three more after a few years. The most prestigious of his four restaurants is Wayfare Tavern, which he opened in San Francisco in 2010. The restaurant is rated with 4 stars.

i. Food 911

Food 911 is a cooking show that premiered in 1999 with Tyler Florence as host. The show was broadcast for 30 minutes per episode on Food Network. The idea behind the show was for the host to tour the United States and help individuals overcome their cooking difficulties.

2. How to Boil Water

The How to Boil Water show originally began in 1993 with Emeril Lagasse as the host. The show had a number of presenters until 2003 when it was co-hosted by Tyler Florence and Jack Hourigan. It portrayed a chef who teaches a student or sometimes someone without any cooking experience. The dishes cooked in the show were simple meals that someone with little or no cooking experience would easily understand.

3. Tyler’s Ultimate

The show had its premiere on 13 March 2003 in the Food Network. In contrast to How to Boil Water, it is an “ultimate” version of ordinary delicacies. Tyler took a trip around the world to learn how popular foods were prepared in different ways, specifically to create an “ultimate” version of the meal.

4. The Great Food Truck Race

The Great Food Truck Race is a reality cooking series that premiered on August 15, 2010, on the Food Network with Tyler Florence as the host. From its premiere until the end of the late season on August 30, 2018, the series has broadcast 51 episodes over 9 seasons. In each season, 6-8 food truck teams receive a “seed money” that allows them to participate in a race where they have to cook, sell, and complete various challenges with the sole goal of winning the $50,000 prize money. The show has always been held between August and September, except for the season that has just finished, which started in July and ended in August.

Tyler has been married twice; his first wife was Christie Lear, but he is currently married to Tolan Florence, whom he first met in 2004. They were introduced by the famous chef Rocco DiSpirito, after which their relationship became serious and their wedding ceremony took place on December 6, 2006. Tolan was the delegate from Wyoming for Miss USA 1994.

Tyler has 3 children, his first child, Miles Florence was born in 1996, he had him when he was married to his first wife Leer. He had the other two with Tolan; Hayden Florence on May 23, 2007, and his only daughter Dorothy Tyler Florence on August 8, 2008. The family lives together in Mill Valley, north of San Francisco, where Tyler owns a store he calls Kitchen Retail.
