Luke Macfarlane, born on January 19, 1980, is a Canadian actor best known for his roles as Scotty Wandell in the ABC television drama “Brothers & Sisters” and RAC agent D’avin Jaqobis in the space television series “Killjoys”.

A small glance at his curriculum vitae reveals that he was born in London. His late father Thomas was Director of Student Health Services at the University of Western Ontario, and his mother Penny is a mental health nurse in a London hospital.
Macfarlane has a twin sister Ruth and an older sister Rebecca. He attended the Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts Elementary School, followed by the Central Secondary School before being accepted to Juilliard for acting.
His career began with the supporting roles he played in PV2 Frank “Dim” Dumphy in the 2005 FX series Over There.

He appeared as the counterpart to Cynthia Nixon in Robert Altman’s miniseries Tanner Tanner on the Sundance Channel and also starred in the two-part miniseries Iron Road. Other notable television roles included Jason Howell in the Canadian sitcom Satisfaction, Rick Lincoln in NBC’s The Night Shift, Chaplain Hopkins in PBS’s Mercy Street, and as D’avin Jaqobis in Syfy’s Killjoys.

Besides acting, Luke Macfarlane is also a singer and songwriter. In his eighth grade at the Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts, he was the lead singer of the band Fellow Nameless under the name Slipnaught – a name they randomly chose from a dictionary because they had no name for the band when it came to performing on stage.

Luke Macfarlane was long thought to be gay until he finally came out as such in an interview with The Globe and Mail in 2008.
He said: “I don’t know what’s going to happen professionally … that’s the fear, but I guess I can’t really worry about what’s going to happen, because it’s my truth.
He also talked about how his role as Scotty (who is also gay) on the TV show “Brothers and Sisters” influenced him and gave him the strength to accept who he was, since he essentially projected himself onto Scotty every time.
When asked how the media deals with the truth about his sexual orientation, he said
“I have a strong feeling that there is a difference between revealing my sexual preference and my most private thoughts. My sexual preference is an irrefutable aspect of me, like the color of my skin. I have never been interested in revealing intimate details about my life. The desire to get in touch with the media has to do with trying to understand this difference.
