The famous American veteran comedian, actor, screenwriter, and film producer Kevin James began his career as a standup comedian in 1989. He became a household name when he starred in the nine seasons of the CBS sitcom The King of Queens, where he played the role of Doug Heffernan – a role that brought him an international audience. He has also appeared in numerous films and television shows.

Kevin James was born Kevin George Knipfing in Mineola, New York, on April 26, 1965, the son of Janet James and Joseph Valentine Knipfing Jr. His father worked in an insurance company he founded, while his mother worked as an alternative practitioner and specialized in chiropractic. His family moved from Mineola to Stony Brook, Long Island, New York City, where he was enrolled at Ward Melville High School. He graduated from high school and went to the State University of New York, Cortland.

He began his career as a standup comedian in 1989 and is said to have had his first appearance at a comedy club run by Richie Minervini. He gained fame when he began appearing on various talk shows, including The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Dennis Miller Live, and The Ellen DeGeneres.

As his popularity grew, so did his audience, and eventually Comedy Central listed him as number 89 of the greatest stand-up comedians. Kevin James is also credited with a standup comedy special called Kevin James: Sweat the Small Stuff. The comedian built a television career when he was employed by a television station called “The New Candid Camera”, where he worked for two years as a presenter for the MTV sports game show SandBlastfrom.

In search of greener pastures, he moved to Los Angeles where he met Ray Romano, the producer of the hit CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, and he starred in several episodes of the sitcom. He also starred in another CBS sitcom, The King of Queens, where he appeared as Doug Heffernan, a supplier to a company called IPS. This sitcom earned him an Emmy Award nomination and international recognition.

He also hosted the 2010 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and starred in films such as I Now Pronce You Chuck & Larry, Grown Ups, The Dilemma, Zookeeper, Here Comes the Boom, Mall Cop, Little Boy, Pixels, True Memoirs of an International Assassin, Sandy Wexler, and the web series Dusty Peacock, in which he played alongside his brother Gary.

The second child in the family is Kevin James’ older brother Gary Joseph Knipfing and his younger sister Leslie Knipfing. His brother Gary, best known by the movie name Gary Valentine, is, like his younger brother, an American actor cum comedian and has also acted at his side in several movies.

The comedian is married to Saffian de la Cruz, an American actress. He met Cruz on a blind date and the duo walked down the aisle in California on June 19, 2014, and currently has 4 children; 3 girls named Sienna-Marie, Shea Joelle, Sistine Sabella, and 1 son named Kannon Valentine.

Weight Loss Journey

Kevin James was known for being a fat man, and during his teenage years in high school he weighed up to 150 pounds. When he ventured into stand-up comedy, his weight rose to 300 pounds. Recently, however, he lost about 50 pounds, and when asked what he was doing to lose weight, he said that he put himself on a diet routine, started running at least six miles a day, and did some fitness training.

Now, without further question, it is obvious that his hard work has paid off and he is rocking his new look with pride. Although he had strayed from a healthy lifestyle a few times in the past, the actor now revealed that he is working on being fit for the sake of his family, especially now that he is getting older.
