James Milner is a professional footballer who plays for Liverpool Football Club and is known for his versatility and all-around skills as a winger, midfielder, or defender. The Englishman’s commitment to football has earned him praise from both his colleagues and managers, one of whom described him as the most complete English player in modern football.
James Milner Biography (Age)
Milner was born James Philip Milner on 4 January 1986 in Wortley, Leeds, where he was brought up by his parents; mother Lesley, who worked as an estate agent, and father Peter, who was a surveyor.
As he grew up, Milner was an outstanding student who excelled in both his studies and sports, playing cricket and football and taking part in long-distance races. He attended Westbrook Lane Primary School, before later attending Horsforth School, where he graduated with 11 GCSEs and an award for Physical Education for his outstanding performance. During this time Milner already had the opportunity to join the Academy of Leeds United, the club in his hometown where his parents were season ticket holders.
James Milner impressed all the coaches he played under at the Academy and went through the club’s various age groups. Having already received much praise, it was an easy decision for Leeds to take the young player on as a trainee after he left school, although his father ensured that his son continued his education by attending college once a week.
At the age of 16, Milner made his debut in Leeds’ first team in a Premier League match against West Ham United, becoming the second-youngest player ever to play in the English premier league. About a month later, Milner was the youngest player to score a goal in the Premier League, a record that has since been broken. The young, versatile player continued to show remarkable performances that earned him comparisons with players like Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen, who made a name for themselves as teenagers.
The Leeds United hierarchy rewarded James Milner with a new contract but loaned him out the following season to gain further first-team experience. He spent a month at Swindon Town before returning to his parents’ club, which was struggling both off and on the pitch. The team had to sell all their major players due to financial problems and relegated to the championship.
Milner was one of these players when he moved to Newcastle United for a fee of around £3.6 million before the start of the 2004-05 season. He spent four years with Newcastle before he was sold to Aston Villa in August 2008 for a fee of around £12 million sterling. He immediately settled with the Birmingham-based club, having played for them on loan from Newcastle in the 2005-06 season. In Milner’s second year with the club, he was named Aston Villa Fan Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year. He attributed his success to the stability he found under coach Martin O’Neill, having previously played for thirteen different coaches in just seven years.
Following his PFA Young Player of the Year Award-winning campaign, Milner moved to Manchester City, where he spent a lot of money, with a player-plus-cash deal that saw Stephen Ireland move to Villa Villa along with a £26 million fee. Milner spent five successful seasons with City, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, an FA Community Shield, and the Football League Cup before moving to his current club, Liverpool, in June 2015 where he received a free transfer.
James Milner’s Family – Wife
James Milner is married to his long-time girlfriend Amy Fletcher, whom he met before starting his football career at Leeds United about two decades ago. Since their paths have crossed, the couple has remained inseparable, although not much is known about their relationship, as Fletcher prefers to stay out of the limelight while her husband, known for his professionalism, diligently pursues his business on the field.
