Dale was born on May 1, 1978, in New York City as the only child of actor, dancer, and choreographer Grover Dale and actress and singer Anita Morris. He attended Wonderland Elementary School in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, and then Manhattanville College Purchase, New York, where he played for the hockey team until he suffered a leg injury.
At the age of 10, he auditioned for the role of Simon in “Lord of the Flies”, in which he was cast. After a five-month stay in Jamaica, he returned to his school education at Wonderland Elementary. His mother died when he was just 15 years old.

Career
His acting career began quite early, at the age of 10 he auditioned for the 1990 film adaptation of Lord of the Flies (in which he played the role of Simon). He then played the role of Chase Edmunds in the third season of the Fox TV series 24, which he later revived in the video game of the same name.
He also appeared in CSI: Miami and CSI: NY as serial killer Henry Darius. The plot originally began in the CSI: Miami season 4 episode “Felony” and ended in the CSI: NY season 2 episode “Manhattan Manhunt”, which led to a crossover between the two shows.
Dale also starred in the HBO mini-series “The Pacific,” as Robert Leckie and as Trooper Barrigan in Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed. He was the main character in AMC’s political thriller Rubicon – a story about a secret society that pulls the strings on the world political stage, like the alleged Illuminati and the Council on Foreign Relations. His most recent work is the film 13 Hours from 2016: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and Spectral, in which he played a leading role.
James once revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair how he got along with gibberish French to be cast in The Walk. When he spoke about how Robert Zemeckis got him to be cast in The Walk, he said
“I got a call from his people, and they said: “We heard a rumor that you speak French.” That kind of wasn’t true. Actually, I don’t want to be ambiguous. It’s not true. It’s just not true. I did another movie with Joe Carnahan [The Grey] and I played a disgusting New Yorker and pretended to be French. So maybe they had heard about it and it was kind of trickling through the pipeline.
“I made him a cassette, and according to him, he got the cassette and sat there and said, “I can’t believe it, Badge speaks French! And then the coach comes in with a French dialect and he says, “That’s not French.” And Bob’s like, “What is that?” And the dialect coach says, “It’s gibberish.
“And so they put me in with a French coach, and then we had another dialect coach as soon as we got on set. The truth is that Joe speaks French. Clément [Sibony], César [Domboy], and Charlotte [Le Bon], live in Paris. They are French. They helped me every day, actually, and they carried me through time. I have to be careful. There are a lot of French people who would kick my ass if I tried to speak French.”
The badge has received several prestigious awards during his career. He was nominated for the 2005 Screen Actor Guild Awards for his performance in the TV series 24. He was also nominated for the Teen Choice Awards and the Young Artist Awards.
