Dion Lewis Bio
Dion Lewis was born Dion John Lewis on September 27, 1990, in Albany, New York, the son of Leroy and Linda Lewis, who raised him.
He attended Albany High School before moving to Albany Academy and later to Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J., where he developed his athletic skills. In Blair, the star of Lewis began to shine in both athletics and football.
In soccer, he led his team to a 17-1 record in two seasons. During that run, Blair Academy won two Mid-Atlantic Prep League championships and one New Jersey Prep State title. Lewis himself was named 2008 New Jersey Prep Offensive Player of the Year for his achievements. This year he had 88 rushes for 1,243 yards and 23 touchdowns.
He was also a letterman in athletics for three years at the Blair Academy, where he competed in sprints (11.09 100m and 23.06 200m), long jump (20’2″), and relay (44.29 4×100).
Lewis was recruited by the University of Pittsburgh for football in 2009. In his first regular twelve-match season, he collected 1,640 stormy yards and 17 touchdowns. His performance in a game against his rival Rutgers, the Big East rival, in which he scored 180 yards and two touchdowns earned him the title “Offensive Player of the Week” of the Big East Conference. This was followed by a report in the highly respected magazine Sports Illustrated when rumors began to circulate about him as a possible candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
At the end of the season, Lewis was named national rookie of the year by Sporting News and CBS Sports, and offensive rookie of the year by College Football News. He was also named both Big East Conference Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, as well as Eastern College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year.
His second year was not quite as spectacular as his first year, but Lewis still managed to lead his team to better heights before deciding to declare for the 2011 NFL Draft, giving up his junior and senior season.
He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 149th pick in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. In his first season with the 2011 Eagles, Lewis played 15 games, storming over 102 yards and a touchdown 23 times and intercepting a pass for a three-yard loss.
In 2013 he was transferred to the Cleveland Browns for linebacker Emmanuel Acho. However, he missed the entire season due to injury and was dropped from the team in 2014.
On December 31, 2014, the New England Patriots signed Lewis as a free agent for a future/reserve contract.
