Devin Harris is a veteran National Basketball Association point guard who has spent most of his 14-year career with the Dallas Mavericks. The Washington Wizards’ fifth overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft not only made progress on the court by being named Wisconsin’s Mr. Basketball in 2001 and Big Ten Player of the Year in 2004 but also held the Guinness World Record for the fastest man ever to play basketball.

On February 27, 1983, Devin Lamar Harris was carried out into the world in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is one of three children of his parents, Terry and Julie Harris. His siblings are brother Bruce and sister Tanisha.

In his first year with the Badgers, Harris and his team surprised everyone by unexpectedly winning the Big Ten championship. The team repeated this feat in his second year, with Harris receiving special recognition and being named the tournament’s most outstanding player. By his junior college year, Devin Harris had established himself as one of the best players in the country. That year he received the Silver Basketball Award for “Big Ten Player of the Year” and was also named second All-American team. Harris then announced that he would give up his last year of college to participate in the 2004 NBA Draft.

Devin Harris was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 5th overall selection and then switched to the Dallas Mavericks. He achieved an average of 5.7 points and 2.2 assists in 76 appearances. The following season, Harris showed a remarkable improvement in his game, earning him a comparison with Dwayne Wade, although he was on the sidelines for a while due to injury. Before the injury, he averaged 9.9 points and 3.2 assists in 56 regular-season games, but returned to the playoffs and helped his team advance to the final where they lost to the Miami Heat.

Harris’s stay with the Mavericks came to an abrupt end in February 2008 when he was transferred to the New Jersey Nets. In just two seasons with his new team, he achieved career highs in points and rebounds per game and became a fan favorite when he made his first and only All-Star appearance as a reserve player in 2009. Harris played a total of four seasons with the Nets. This was followed by two years with the Utah Jazz and one year with the Atlanta Hawks before returning to Dallas for a second time with the Mavs.

After five years with the Mavericks, Devin Harris joined the Denver Nuggets in January 2018. He spent only half the season with the Denver Nuggets before returning to the Mavericks for a third season in August 2018.

Devin Harris was able to make a wife out of his 4-year-old girlfriend, softcore model Meghan Allen. The couple started dating in January 2009 and after several years of getting to know each other, they decided to take the next step and exchange vows in 2013. Together the couple is said to have been blessed with two children.

Devin Harris lost his brother Bruce on October 19, 2017, in North Dallas, Texas. Bruce died in a terrible car accident after the car he was driving, which broke down on the Central Expressway near Walnut Hill, was rear-ended at about 1:45 am.
