You may not have heard of Ata Johnson, but you probably know the former wrestling giant Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as The Rock? Yeah, well, Ata Johnson is the mother of the world-famous actor and retired professional wrestler The Rock. She was also the wife of former wrestling champion Rocky Johnson, in whose footsteps The Rock so obviously followed. Her parents not only had a wrestling husband and a son but were also active in the wrestling business.

Ata Johnson – Biography

Feagaimaleta Fitisemanu Maiva (Ata) was born on October 25, 1948, in Hawaii, USA, as the son of the famous professional wrestler Peter Mavia and the wrestling promoter Lia Mavia. Originally Samoan, she is American by nationality.

In her youth, she was interested in modeling, as she was very fashionable and quite picky about outfits, as she had a high knowledge of fashion at that time. Ata also has a passion for singing, but she never thought of this as a career. There is no known information about her height or her education, what we do know is that she was born into a productive wrestling family. After her divorce from Rocky John in 2003, she is currently single.

Ata gave birth to the couple’s only child, Dwayne Douglas Johnson, on May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California. The son became a popular actor and producer, not forgetting that he is a retired professional wrestler known as “The Rock”, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Trained by his father, the art of wrestling was something he wanted more than anything else, and on March 10, 1996, he officially made his debut in the sport.

Dwayne was also known for his various roles in movies like Star Trek, Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King, The Rundown, Walking Tall and The fast and furious, where he appeared in the fifth and last three movies. Ata always talked about her son and was never short of praise for her boy, she always talked about how he got into trouble at a young age before he realized that he should stay away from this kind of life and change forever.

Dwayne also talked about how his mother meant the world to him and how she gave up many joys to raise him. He remembers a time when she was once evicted from her apartment because she couldn’t afford it, but now, with the success of his career, she has everything she wants.

More than that, he once expressed his true feelings when his mother and his cousin (Lina Fenene), who is also a professional wrestler, had an accident in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. He said that when he thinks about the person who did it, the first reaction would be to find the person and inflict relentless damage on them, but when he remembers that his mother and cousin made it out alive, he thanks.

Ata dedicated her life to the proper upbringing of her son and made sure that he had all the necessities of childhood. Her efforts have undoubtedly paid off because apart from being a retired wrestler and having a truly successful acting career, Dwayne is currently married and has two children.

Ata Johnson was married to the professional wrestler Wayde Douglas, popularly known as “Rocky Johnson”. The two met when Rocky and her father were tag-team partners. When it was clear that Rocky and Ata were serious, problems arose because Rocky Johnson often traveled to fights and shows, which led to her father disapproving of their relationship and marriage. He felt that the responsibilities wrestlers have would require him to leave his wife and spend more time on the streets.

However, the couple came together anyway and traveled everywhere together to save the marriage and bridge the gap that Ata’s father had expected. None of this worked out, however, and in 2003 they finally divorced. Rocky was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.

Ata Johnson was the daughter of Samoan-American professional wrestling promoter Leah Maiva and professional wrestler, Hall-of-Famer and “High Chief” Peter Maiva, a professional wrestler known for his intimidating tribal tattoos, traditional South Pacific dress, and barefoot appearance in the ring.

Ata Johnson is known to come from a wrestling family known as the Anoa’l wrestling family, which is further explained in the American Samoan tradition. Her father was a Samoan professional wrestler until his death, who won 18 world heavyweight championships and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in Orlando, Florida. He was a character base for the Disney cartoon “Moana” from 2016, he died of cancer in 1982 at the age of 45 and her mother died of a heart attack on 19 October 2008 at the age of 81.
