Among the many things that NBA player, wrestler, actor, and TV personality Dennis Rodman is known for are his many failed marriages and relationships. The five-time NBA championship title winner has walked down the aisle with three different women – Annie Bakes, Carmen Electra, and Michelle Moyer. Apart from his marriage to Michelle Moyer, which lasted about nine years, his other marriage broke up within the first year.
After three failed marriages and relationships, including one with the renowned singer Madonna, Rodman, who is currently single, has come to the conclusion that for him marriage is not an essential part of a relationship, but rather nothing more than a ceremony that has nothing to do with the actual bond between the two people involved. But who were these women that the former NBA was once married to? In this article, we will talk about his first wife – Annie Bakes. Who is she? Where does she come from? What happened to her? All this and more will be discussed in the following sub-categories.
Annie Bakes – Bio (Age)
Bakes was born Anicka Bakes on February 26, 1965, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, but she said she preferred to be called and addressed as Annie. Anicka’s family moved frequently during her formative years, so she had trouble making friends at that time.
Annie’s difficulties in making friends at the time were also due to her rapid growth and maturity. According to her, she entered puberty at a fairly young age and was therefore the subject of many jokes and rumors.
Because of her early maturity and beautiful features, Annie started modeling at sixteen after an agent approached her in a shopping mall. Her parents thought it was a joke, but it turned out to be real. Her height and blonde hair became her distinguishing features in the modeling world, and soon she was most appreciated in the print media.
At the age of eighteen, she switched to more mature modeling of things like swimwear and lingerie. Unfortunately, Annie’s career as a model ended in 1986 after she suffered scars and injuries in a car accident.
Her Relationship With Dennis Rodman
After the accident, Annie Bakes had to make ends meet and in order to survive, the then 21-year-old began working as a hostess in clubs in the L.A. area. There, in 1987, she met her ex-husband Dennis Rodman in a nightclub in Sacramento, fell in love with him and the two became lovers.
Soon she moved in with Dennis, who was warming up benches for the Detroit Pistons. In 1988 she had her first and only child for the ex-NBA player – a beautiful daughter named Alexis Rodman. Their relationship with Rodman was not at all smooth after his many escapades and infidelities, they separated again and again and got back together. Annie would later reveal that she kept coming back because she thought she could fight for her husband.
Despite her many difficulties, Annie took the chance and made her covenant with Dennis in 1991 in a chapel in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. But things began to fall apart the following year when Annie claimed that Rodman had cheated on her repeatedly, and she also pointed out his abusive tendencies.
Annie Bakes also claimed that Rodman forced her to have four abortions, which hindered her future chances of having more children. She also said that she contracted an STD. After an ugly argument that flared up between them, Annie filed for divorce in 1992, which was finalized the following year.
After her restless and failed marriage, Annie turned to a therapist who encouraged her to write down her feelings at the time. This led to her first book, Worse Than He Says He Is: My Walk On The Wild Side With Dennis Rodman, which was published in 1997. The book received many positive reviews, including 4/5 stars from goodreads.com.
Rodman has been married and divorced twice since then, and Annie Bakes has led a quiet life and kept her private life private ever since. Since 2006, she was reportedly married to a mysterious police officer whose identity has remained unknown.
