Adam Lambert is an American singer who started singing at the age of nine but only became really famous in the eighth season of American Idol. Adam Mitchel Lambert was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 29, 1982, the son of Eber and Leila Lambert. After his birth, his family moved to San Diego, California. He is of Norwegian and Jewish origin. His father is half Norwegian and his mother is Jewish, with roots in Romania; he was raised Jewish. His mother is a dental hygienist and his father is a program manager at Novatel Wireless. Adam has a younger brother, Neil Lambert.

When Adam was nine years old, he started performing with MET2 (Metropolitan Educational Theatre). With a strong voice and an interest in acting, Adam began an intensive acting and singing program at MET2 (Metropolitan Educational Theatre). He eventually attended Mesa Verde Middle School and Mount Carmel High School. His interest led him to join the theater team and choir. He was one of the members of the school’s jazz band and participated in the local air band competitions.

He performed in local professional productions such as Hello, Camelot, The Music Man, Chess, and Peter Pan. In 2000, after graduating high school, he attended California State University in Fullerton, but dropped out after five weeks and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion.

Lambert began his career in Los Angeles with odd jobs and studied Theater Studies at the same time. He found his first professional job on a cruise ship, where he performed with Anita Mann Productions for ten months. He then moved to the opera house in Orange County, California. When he was 21 years old, he was already under contract with a manager and was cast for a European tour by Hair. After that, he tried his hand at a few more musicals, and during this time he worked as a demo singer and session musician.

In 2009 Lambert really stepped into the limelight when he auditioned for American Idol. Because of his vocal range, deep black hair, and heavy mascara he was compared to glam rockers like Freddie Mercury and Gene Simmons. Lambert was known for his theatricality during his performances. At the end of the season, he was announced as runner-up. He started the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2009 in July and subsequently won two awards: the Young Hollywood Award as Artist of the Year and the Teen Choice Award as Male Reality/Variety Star.

Adam Lambert’s career has continued to flourish ever since. In May 2012 he released his second album Trespassing, which became number 1 on the Billboard 200.
